WE FURNISH HORSES.
When you take lessons you will be here about three hours for the first one
as we go through the entire process which is a combination of both
demonstration and hands on experience and riding. After we finish this one
we schedule according to your availability. Students make steady progress
coming once a week.
After the first, long session, you are here about an hour and a half to an hour
and forty five minutes from time of arrival to departure.
People taking lessons try to ride weekly or more often. I have found that
riding at least once a week a person will make continuous progress. There is
a lot of information involved with this activity. This frequency also contributes
to physical development.
I ask that parents plan to remain with minors. When we are dealing with
little bitty riders, I ask that the parent plan to become the child's coach. I can
teach you right along with your child. You do not need to have prior horse
experience - just the want to.
After enrolling in the lessons, I will send you a link to Internet resources that I
am developing so you can do some learning at home between times or
refreshing if you have missed some lessons. I am putting up information in
text, pictures and videos.
Realizing a few folks may someday have horses in their lives, I am happy to
answer any questions that will help you develop understanding about taking
on a horse as part of your family. On my student resources page is a
Power Point (2010) presentation about horse ownership 101 for people
considering a horse.
I base my instruction on horse behavior and communication. We (the
humans) need to learn to think like a horse for the relationship to be the best
it can be. You learn how your body communicates to the horse all the time,
even when you don't realize it.
You learn to listen to the messages your horse sends you, to translate the
information and take timely and appropriate action. You learn how to be 'the
leader of the herd'. You and the horse are indeed a herd.
Sometime in your past you might have had a horse experience that left you
with fear. There have been a lot of people through here that came with fear
and were able to leave without it. That is because we have a nice selection of
gentle and kind horses.
I require that riders use an approved helmet and boots for safety. I have
both and the use of them is included in the price.
All the riding is under my direct supervision in the arena. We are not set up
for trail riding.
The lesson may have 3-4 riders in it. Due to available time for people to
ride the lessons are not divided into things like beginner, intermediate, etc. I
have found that adults and children riding together and beginners in with more
experienced riders keep new experiences in front of all the riders. Under
these circumstances everyone continues to learn valuable lessons.
There are times that riders scheduled with you may cancel out and that
leaves you with a private lesson for the lower cost of the group lesson. I will
give private lessons at your request but the price is higher than riding with
$$$$ You will need to call for prices on services. We are not set up to take plastic. Payment will need to be either cash or check. $$$$
